Here's the Problem

A mom called and told me how upset she was about the text messages her 13-year-old daughter was receiving from a 15-year-old boy. The daughter is in the eighth grade; the boy is in the ninth. This mom is extremely proactive in monitoring her daughter's Facebook wall posts and text messaging, thank God! Her daughter knows that her mom is doing this. It's above board. Lately, the mom had been seeing Facebook messages, wall posts, and text messages from this boy asking for sex, pure and simple. When her mom talked to her after reading one of these text messages, the daughter admitted that while she was flattered by the attention of an “older boy,” she was also upset and uncomfortable with his requests. Ambivalent, she'd told him to stop, but only in the mildest way.
